Italy’s number one pasta, Barilla, has been cooking up a veritable storm in the lead up to the opening of Casa Barilla. This new culinary centre for all-things Italian will house the inaugural Barilla Cooking School along with the CIRA Cooking School, run by the Council of Italian Restaurants in Australia. Casa Barilla will fire up the burners, rattle the pots, "butta la pasta" (throw on the pasta) and swing open its doors on April 8, 2008 with a line up of events that will satiate even mamma's appetite! The venue will be fitted out with a customised SMEG kitchen featuring state-of-the-art equipment.
On October 26, Barilla was part of the much-anticipated Norton Street Italian Festa in Leichhardt, Sydney which drew crowds of over 100,000 people.
Norton Street was transformed into an Italian-style piazza for the day with stalls, entertainment, activities and workshops for all ages.
